A museum for marine education, “Sea Showcase,” has been set up in the education building, and is used for practical training, nature observation events, and tours by local elementary schools. It is also open to the public on an irregular basis. In this museum, materials and specimens are exhibited to introduce Misaki’s marine research activities at MMBS, and its history, which can be used for marine education. In particular, various types of specimens of fishes and invertebrates collected in Sagami Bay, as well as wooden furniture used since the Meiji, Taisho and early Showa periods, allow visitors to experience MMBS.
Currently, the exhibition rooms are open to school-related persons from elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools, universities, etc., by appointment up to one week in advance. Please take advantage of this service for school field trips, field trips, social tours, teacher education, etc. Please see below for information on how to make a reservation.
How to make reservations for tours (for school administrators only)
Please send an e-mail to office@mmbs.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp at least one week prior to the desired date of the visit with the name of the school, number of visitors, desired date and time (up to the third choice*), and purpose of the visit.
After reviewing your application, we will conduct an in-office assessment and notify you whether or not your visit will be approved.
※ Please note that we may not be able to accommodate your request if there is a conflict with your university training schedule. Please understand this in advance.
The exhibition room was developed as part of a project of the University of Tokyo’s Research Center for the Advancement of Marine Education (Nippon Foundation). A portion of the donations made to the Marine Frontier Science Project of the University of Tokyo Foundation was also used in the construction of the exhibition room. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all those who supported this project.
